A photo, a poster or a painting only truly stands out in the right frame — it protects the print and at the same time completes the look of the room. They are chosen according to the size of the photo, the style of the interior and whether they are to stand on a table or hang on the wall.

They differ mainly in size, material and in whether they are placed on a surface or hung on the wall.
The most common are tabletop and wall photo frames in classic sizes such as 10×15, 13×18, 20×30 or A4. Smaller frames with a stand suit a chest of drawers, a shelf or a desk, while larger wall frames for posters and paintings bring out a striking motif. For several pictures at once there are collages and multi-frames, which turn a single wall into a whole photo gallery.
Looks and durability are mainly determined by the material and finish. Wooden frames feel warm and suit classic and Scandinavian rooms, metal and aluminium ones are modern and understated, plastic ones are light and affordable. The front glass or acrylic protects the print from dust and moisture, and a mat around the photo adds airiness and optically enlarges the free space around the motif.
In the choice, the size is decisive above all — the frame should match the size of the photo or poster exactly, or allow for an inserted mat. It is worth looking at the portrait or landscape orientation, the way of hanging or standing it up and the colour that matches the wall and the furniture. With gift pieces, the option of a custom print or engraving is a nice touch too.
