The set contains 2 test tubes for ant keeping, from which you can prepare a simple and proven nest for a young queen or a small colony. The tubes measure 18 x 180 mm, i.e. 18 mm in diameter and 180 mm in length, a size commonly used by ant keepers. They are transparent with a light blue tint, so you can clearly see the queen, eggs, larvae and the first workers. The tubes are empty and you create the inner layout of the nest yourself according to the species and size of the colony. They suit beginners founding their first colony as well as experienced keepers who need spare or additional tubes.
One end of the tube is closed and rounded, the other is open and serves as the nest entrance. Water is usually poured into the closed part and separated by a cotton plug, and the space behind it is inhabited by the ants. This gives the nest a constant humidity that young colonies need. You can close the open end with cotton wool or insert it into the holder of an ant farm or feeding arena. The tubes can also be used as a portable nest when catching a young queen after the nuptial flight, when she needs a quiet and darker place to found a colony. To shade the nest, you can wrap the tube in paper or cloth.

Before use, rinse the tubes with clean water and let them dry well. Pour water to about one third of the length and push the cotton in firmly enough so that the water does not run through, but moisture gradually seeps into the nest. When the water runs out or mould appears in the tube, move the ants to the second prepared tube, which is why it is handy to have both tubes available. Store the tubes in a shaded place away from direct sunlight and heat sources so that the water does not warm up unnecessarily. After moving the colony, wash the used tubes with warm water and let them dry thoroughly before using them again.
A pair of 18 x 180 mm test tubes is basic equipment for every ant keeper and makes it easy to move the colony when the nest needs replacing. The transparent walls give a good view of the whole colony and make it easier to check how the queen and brood are doing. You can use the tubes on their own or connect them to an arena or farm. How do I return goods?
