Overview
Tungsten Carbide Thread Mill M16 x 2 mm Single Tooth Shank 12 mm Sintered Carbide Silver CNC Milling Machines and Machining Centres Threads M16

The tungsten carbide mill for metric thread M16 x 2 mm is a single tooth tool for milling threads on CNC milling machines and machining centres. It is entirely made of tungsten carbide, which is commonly used for precision cutting tools. Unlike a tap, the mill does not cut the thread all at once but creates it gradually by moving in a helical motion according to the programme. The cutting head with a single row of thread profile is at the end of the tool, behind which is a narrower neck and cylindrical shank. The mill has a silver surface.

  • Thread M16 with a pitch of 2 mm — the mill is designed for a metric thread with a nominal diameter of 16 mm and a pitch of 2 mm, which is the standard coarse pitch for M16. M16 threads are used, for example, in solid screw connections in machine parts, load-bearing frames, or steel structures.
  • Tooth on the cutting head — at the end of the tool is a single tooth with the thread profile. The thread does not form all at once along its length but gradually, and its length is determined by the programme.
  • Revolution around the thread axis — the mill revolves around the thread axis and during one revolution, it moves vertically by one pitch, i.e., by 2 mm. The machine's control system must support this movement, known as helical interpolation.
  • Sintered carbide throughout the tool — the shank, neck, and cutting head are made from a single piece. Sintered carbide is harder than tool steel and allows for precise shaping of the tooth.
  • Longitudinal grooves on the head — the cutting head features longitudinal grooves visible in the image. They form cutting edges and serve to remove chips from the cutting area.
  • Clamping by the shank — the cylindrical shank has a diameter of 12 mm and is clamped into a collet or holder of the same diameter. The narrower neck between the shank and cutting head allows it to fit into a hole.
  • The direction of the helix determines the thread — depending on the direction in which the programme guides the tool, a right or left thread will be produced. The same mill can thus create both directions of M16 x 2 mm thread.
  • Pre-drilling hole M16 — the internal thread is milled into a pre-drilled hole. Choose the drill diameter according to the tables for M16 thread and clear the hole of chips and burrs before milling.
  • Cautious cutting conditions — the cutting head can be damaged under overload. Set appropriate feeds and speeds and clamp the tool firmly and accurately. When not in use, store the mill in a case to protect the tooth edge.
  • Package contents — 1x tungsten carbide thread mill M16 x 2 mm with a single tooth and 12 mm shank.

The mill for thread M16 x 2 mm is used for producing metric threads on CNC milling machines and machining centres. The tungsten carbide design gives it the hardness needed for precise machining. Thanks to the cutting head with one tooth, the thread is formed gradually, and its length and direction are controlled by the programme. The mill is clamped by a cylindrical shank with a diameter of 12 mm. It is applicable in workshops and production where M16 threads need to be milled.
