Overview
Thread Milling Tool M5 x 0.8 mm Single Tooth Shank 4 mm Solid Carbide Tungsten Carbide Silver CNC Milling Machines and Machining Centres

The thread milling tool M5 x 0.8 mm has a single tooth with a thread profile and is designed for CNC milling machines and machining centres. It is made entirely of solid carbide, which is a tungsten carbide commonly used for precision machining tools. The thread is not created by screwing in a tap, but by milling, during which the machine guides the tool along the helix according to the programme. The cutting head is at the end of the tool, followed by a narrower neck and a cylindrical shank with a diameter of 4 mm. The surface of the tool is silver.

  • Metric size M5 — the tool is designed for a thread with a nominal diameter of 5 mm and a pitch of 0.8 mm, which is the standard coarse pitch for M5. M5 threads are used, for example, in screws for machine parts, fixtures, devices, or structures.
  • Single profile tooth — the cutting head carries a single row of thread profile. The thread is thus created gradually, and its length is set in the programme.
  • Combined motion — the tool rotates, revolves around the thread axis, and simultaneously moves vertically by 0.8 mm with each revolution. This motion is called helical interpolation, and the machine must support it.
  • Carbide body — the shank, neck, and cutting head form a single piece of solid carbide. The material is harder than tool steel and retains the shape of the tooth well.
  • Cutting grooves — on the cutting head, longitudinal grooves are visible in the image. They create cutting edges and also provide a place for chips to escape.
  • Shank and neck — the cylindrical shank with a diameter of 4 mm is clamped into a collet or holder of the same diameter. Between the shank and the cutting head is a narrower neck, allowing the head to enter a hole.
  • Direction of rotation — right or left thread determines the direction of the helix in the programme. The same tool can thus be used for both directions of the M5 x 0.8 mm thread.
  • Thread hole — the internal thread is milled into a pre-drilled hole. Choose its diameter according to the tables for M5 thread and clean it of chips and burrs before milling.
  • Clamping and feeds — the cutting head is small, and may break under overload. Clamp the tool firmly and accurately, and choose appropriate feeds and speeds. When not in use, store the tool in a case to protect the tooth edge.
  • Package contents — 1x thread milling tool M5 x 0.8 mm with a single tooth and a 4 mm shank.

The tool for thread M5 x 0.8 mm is used for milling metric threads on CNC milling machines and machining centres. Solid carbide gives it the hardness needed for precision machining. Because the cutter is single tooth, the thread is created gradually, and its length and direction are controlled by the programme. The tool is inserted into the holder with a cylindrical shank of 4 mm in diameter. It is applicable in workshops and production where M5 threads need to be milled.
