Overview
Storm Glass in Cube Shape 6 cm Barometer Made of Hand-Blown Glass on Beech Base Table Decoration

The storm glass in cube shape is a glass decoration in which fine crystals form and dissolve according to temperature changes. The cube with an edge of 6 cm is filled with a solution that can be almost clear at times and at others filled with white formations resembling snow or feathers. The vessel is supported by one corner on a beech wood base, giving it a light and airy appearance. The smaller design fits easily on a narrow shelf, windowsill, or beside a monitor without being obtrusive. Observing the changes in the crystals entertains both children and adults, turning an ordinary table into a place where something is always happening.

The vessel is hand-blown from lead-free borosilicate glass, which is clear and allows light to pass through well. Inside is a solution of distilled water, ethanol, camphor, and other substances, whose crystals react to temperature changes approximately in the range of 2 to 40 °C. As the temperature rises, the crystals gradually disperse and the liquid becomes clearer. Conversely, as it cools, the number of crystals increases, forming larger feather-like structures in the liquid. By observing the shape of the crystals, you can track how the environment around the cube changes throughout the day and across the year.

The geometric shape of the cube harmonises well with modern, minimalist, and Scandinavian interiors. The light wood of the base and clear glass complement wood, concrete, white shelves, and houseplants. You can place the cube in the living room, study, children's room, or office, and due to its smooth surface, it is easy to keep clean.

Upon unpacking, the liquid may be cloudy and clusters of crystals may appear at the bottom. This is a normal state, and the solution usually stabilises within one to two weeks in a new environment. Place the cube in an interior location where the temperature naturally changes throughout the day. In an air-conditioned room, the changes in the crystals will be less pronounced. Do not expose it to direct sunlight for extended periods, as camphor may brown and curved glass focuses light similarly to a magnifying glass. Hand-blown glass may occasionally have tiny bubbles or spots, which are part of the production process. The surface can be wiped with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

The storm glass cube combines a simple geometric shape with the ever-changing play of crystals that varies throughout the year. The cube with an edge of 6 cm stands on a base of 6 x 6 cm, taking up minimal space. Clear hand-blown glass allows each crystal inside to stand out. It serves as a table decoration, for a bookshelf, or on a windowsill, and makes an interesting gift for nature and science lovers. Each view of it can reveal a slightly different image.
