Overview
Solid Carbide Tapping Cutter M2.5 x 0.45 mm With One Tooth Shank 4 mm Sintered Carbide Silver For CNC Milling Machines Metric Thread M2.5

The solid carbide tapping cutter with one tooth is designed for milling metric thread M2.5 x 0.45 mm on CNC milling machines and machining centres. The entire tool is made of sintered carbide, a hard material used for precision cutting tools. The thread is created by milling in a helical manner according to the machine's programme, rather than by cutting with a tap. At the end of the tool is a cutting head with a single row of thread profile, followed by a narrower neck and cylindrical shank. The cutter is silver.

  • Pitch 0.45 mm — the cutter is intended for a thread with a nominal diameter of 2.5 mm with a pitch of 0.45 mm, which is the basic coarse pitch for M2.5. The M2.5 thread is used, for example, in small screws in electronics, devices, small mechanisms or models.
  • Single-tooth design — the cutting head features a single tooth with a thread profile. The thread is therefore formed gradually, and its length can be adjusted in the programme.
  • Helical milling — during operation, the cutter revolves around the thread axis and advances by a pitch of 0.45 mm for each revolution. This movement, known as helical interpolation, must be supported by the machine's control system.
  • Carbide throughout — the shank, neck, and cutting head are made from a single piece of sintered carbide. This material is harder than tool steel and allows for precise shaping of the small tooth.
  • Grooved head — the cutting head features longitudinal grooves that create cutting edges and also serve to evacuate chips.
  • Shank clamping — the cylindrical shank with a diameter of 4 mm is clamped into a collet or holder for this diameter. The narrower neck allows the cutting head to enter a hole.
  • Right and left rotation — the direction of the thread is determined by the direction of the helix in the programme. One cutter can thus produce both right and left threads M2.5 x 0.45 mm.
  • Pre-drilled hole before milling — the internal thread is milled into a pre-drilled hole. Its diameter should be determined according to tables for thread M2.5, and the hole should be cleaned of chips before milling.
  • Fine cutting edge — the cutting head for this size is small and may break under overload. Choose appropriate feeds and speeds and ensure firm and precise clamping. Store the cutter in a case outside the machine to prevent damage to the tooth edge.
  • Package contents — 1x solid carbide tapping cutter M2.5 x 0.45 mm with one tooth and 4 mm shank.

The tapping cutter for the size M2.5 x 0.45 mm is used for producing small metric threads on CNC milling machines and machining centres. Sintered carbide provides the tool with the hardness necessary for precise machining. Thanks to the single-tooth cutting head, the thread is formed gradually, and its length and direction are controlled by the programme. The cutter is clamped with a cylindrical shank of 4 mm diameter. It is suitable for use in workshops and production where M2.5 threads need to be milled.
