Overview
Fermentation Lid with Airlock 70 mm for Mason Jars Metal Lid with Transparent Valve for Fermenting Vegetables and Sauerkraut

The fermentation lid with airlock transforms a standard preserving jar into a practical container for home fermentation of vegetables. The lid has a diameter of 70 mm and screws onto the jar just like a traditional lid. In the centre, there is a securely fitted transparent airlock that vents gases from the jar during fermentation. This keeps the jar sealed, allowing the contents to ferment quietly without the need for constant opening and venting. It is suitable for sauerkraut, pickled cucumbers, kimchi, carrots, peppers, and other fermented vegetables.

The airlock operates on a simple water seal principle. Fill the chamber of the airlock with water to about halfway. The gases produced during fermentation build up pressure under the lid, pass through the water in the chamber, and escape through small holes in the top cap. Air from outside cannot enter the jar because the water blocks the path. You can monitor the entire process thanks to the transparent plastic and easily check if there is still enough water in the airlock.

Compared to covering the jar with a cloth or a loosely placed lid, the airlock provides a closed environment where fermentation occurs evenly. You do not need to open the jar every day to release built-up pressure, as the valve does this for you. The lid is suitable for beginners who are just starting with fermentation, as well as for experienced DIYers who prepare multiple batches at once and want to keep individual jars clearly under control.

  • Type – fermentation lid with airlock
  • Lid Diameter – 70 mm (2.75 inches)
  • Suitable for – Mason jars with a neck of 70 mm
  • Lid – metal with threads
  • Airlock – transparent plastic with water chamber and cap
  • Food Contact – yes
  • Usage – fermenting sauerkraut, cucumbers, kimchi, and other vegetables
  • Contents – 1 metal lid 70 mm with airlock

When filling the jar, leave at least 3 cm of space between the vegetables and the lid to allow gases to accumulate beneath the lid and prevent the brine from rising to the airlock. Keep the vegetables submerged in the brine and top up the water in the airlock chamber as needed during fermentation. Once fermentation is complete, simply unscrew the lid, wash it in warm water, and prepare it for the next batch. Rinse the airlock thoroughly after use to prevent dirt from settling in the chamber. You can then seal the finished sauerkraut in the jar with a regular lid and store it in a cool place.

The 70 mm fermentation lid is a simple aid for anyone who wants to prepare fermented vegetables at home without special fermentation pots. Just screw it onto a preserving jar and pour water into the airlock. Thanks to the water seal, gases escape while air remains outside. The lid can be reused for sauerkraut, cucumbers, kimchi, and your own recipes, and due to its 70 mm diameter, it easily pairs with the corresponding Mason jars.
