Overview
CNC Thread Milling Cutter M18 x 2.5 mm Single Flute Shank 14 mm Solid Carbide Tungsten Carbide Silver Machining Centres Threads M18

The CNC thread milling cutter M18 x 2.5 mm features a single flute with a thread profile and is used on CNC milling machines and machining centres. It is made entirely of tungsten carbide, a hard material commonly used for precision cutting tools. The thread is not created by a tap but is formed as the machine guides the cutter along a helix according to the programme. At the end of the tool is a cutting head with a single row of thread profile, followed by a narrower neck and a cylindrical shank with a diameter of 14 mm. The surface of the cutter is silver.

  • Coarse pitch of 2.5 mm — the cutter is designed for a metric thread with a nominal diameter of 18 mm and a pitch of 2.5 mm, which is the standard coarse pitch for M18. M18 threads are commonly used in screw connections for larger machine parts, frames, or steel constructions.
  • Single flute with profile — the cutting head carries a single row of thread profile. The thread is formed gradually, and its length can be adjusted in the programme.
  • Helix in the programme — the cutter revolves around the thread axis and moves vertically by 2.5 mm for each revolution. This movement is called helical interpolation and must be supported by the machine's control system.
  • Entirely made of tungsten carbide — the shank, neck, and cutting head are made from a single piece of material. Tungsten carbide is harder than tool steel and retains the precise shape of the flute well.
  • Flutes and cutting edges — the image shows longitudinal flutes on the cutting head. They create cutting edges and also provide space for chip removal.
  • 14 mm shank — the cylindrical shank with a diameter of 14 mm is clamped into a collet or holder of the same diameter. The narrower neck between the shank and head allows the cutting part to enter a hole.
  • Right or left thread — the direction of the thread is determined by the helix direction set in the programme. The same cutter can thus produce both directions of thread M18 x 2.5 mm.
  • Drilling hole M18 — the internal thread is milled into a pre-drilled hole. Choose the drill diameter according to the tables for thread M18 and clean the hole of chips and burrs before milling.
  • Secure clamping and appropriate feed — the cutting head can be damaged under overload. Clamp the tool securely and accurately, and choose appropriate feeds and speeds. Outside the machine, store the cutter in a case to prevent damage to the cutting edge.
  • Package contents — 1x single flute cutter for CNC thread milling M18 x 2.5 mm with a 14 mm shank.

The cutter for thread M18 x 2.5 mm is used for producing metric threads on CNC milling machines and machining centres. Tungsten carbide provides the hardness needed for precise machining. With a single flute, the thread is formed gradually, and its length and direction can be set in the programme. The tool is inserted into the clamping device with a cylindrical 14 mm shank. It is applicable in workshops and production where M18 threads need to be milled.
