Candle wicks, dyes and accessories
Every homemade candle needs the right wick, a touch of colour and a few small accessories. Here you will find cotton and wooden wicks, pre-waxed wicks with metal sustainers, candle dyes in chips or liquid form, fragrance oils and wick holders that keep the wick straight while you pour.

The wick matters more than you might think. A wick that is too thin gives a small flame and the candle burns only down the middle, while one that is too thick smokes and uses up the wax quickly.
Candle wicks are chosen according to the candle's diameter and the type of wax. Cotton wicks are versatile, while wooden wicks crackle pleasantly like a fireplace as they burn. Pre-waxed wicks with a metal sustainer simply sit on the bottom of the container and are held in place with a wick sticker.
Candle dyes are added to the melted wax. Dye chips are easy to measure out, and liquid dyes let you build subtle shades drop by drop. Scent comes from fragrance oils made for candles, which withstand hot wax and keep their scent while the candle burns.
Useful accessories include wick centring bars, which keep the wick right in the middle while the wax cools, melting pitchers and a thermometer for checking the pouring temperature. With them, even beginners can make candles that look shop-bought.
