The six is the finest size used in a typical workshop. It appears on terminal blocks and enclosures on electronics covers in models and modelling techniques, on small furniture fittings, and on cable clips in cars. Screws of this size are tightened by feel, not by force, which is why the short body of 127 mm allows for good torque estimation. The closed end carries the ratchet, and the gearing with 72 teeth catches a new engagement after just five degrees of rotation, allowing the nut to move even when the hand shifts only by a centimetre. The open end, on the other hand, reaches connections accessible only from the side. The ring has a width of 18.5 mm with a thickness of 8 mm, the open end measures 15 mm and is 6 mm thick. The surface is dark grey, the ratchet ring is gold-coloured, and the number 6 is stamped on both sides of the arm. The arm is flat and slightly curved near the head, allowing it to run closely along the cover or plate.

  • Ratchet in Ring 6 mm — a small nut can be threaded without repeatedly removing the spanner, saving the most time in precision mechanics.
  • Engagement after 5° — fine division works even between conductors and plastic parts, where the arm cannot be pulled out at all and a traditional spanner needs to be switched after each pull.

This tool is useful in electrical engineering for model work, during bicycle servicing, and in furniture assembly and small constructions. The ratchet side speeds up threading and tightening; for a rusty or previously over-tightened screw, it is better to use a solid spanner, as the fine gearing is not designed for impact loading.
