The shank cutter with dimensions 5 x 22 mm is a straight grooving cutter for milling narrower grooves and cut-outs in wood. It features three tungsten carbide (TCT) blades, a cutting diameter of 5 mm, and blade lengths of 22 mm. It is clamped with a shank diameter of 12.7 mm, or 1/2 inch, into a router, CNC milling machine, or engraving machine. It is designed for wood and multilayer chipboard. The shank is silver, the part near the blades is white, and there is a black ring on the shank.
- Cut width of 5 mm — the cutter creates a groove 5 mm wide with a flat bottom and vertical walls. It is suitable where a standard 6 mm groove is too wide.
- Depth up to 22 mm — blades 22 mm long allow for milling deeper grooves. For a narrow cutter, gradually increase the depth in multiple passes to avoid overloading the tool.
- Three working blades — during rotation, three blades gradually engage in the cut, each removing smaller chips. The cut is therefore smoother than with cutters with fewer blades.
- Tungsten carbide cutting edges — the cutting edges are made of tungsten carbide, abbreviated as TCT. This material is harder than tool steel and is commonly used in wood cutters.
- Clamping in a 12.7 mm collet — the shank with a diameter of 1/2 inch fits into a 12.7 mm collet. Do not clamp it into a 12 mm collet, as it would not hold securely. Therefore, check your router's equipment before purchasing.
- Overall dimensions — the cutter is 71 mm long. The thick shank provides good rigidity in the collet, and choose the depth of insertion according to your machine's instructions.
- For routers and CNC — the cutter can be used in a handheld router, in a milling table, in a CNC milling machine, or in an engraving machine with a 1/2 inch collet.
- Finer joints — the narrower groove is suitable for embedding thinner boards, strips, and infills in wood and multilayer chipboard. You will use it when making furniture, boxes, and frames.
- Protection during work — securely tighten the cutter, safely clamp the workpiece, and choose an appropriate feed rate. Always wear protective glasses when milling.
