Overview
4-Jaw Self-Centering Chuck for Lathes with a Diameter of 125 mm for Speeds up to 3000 RPM Silver for Machine Tools and CNC Lathes

The self-centering chuck with four jaws grips the workpiece in such a way that it automatically centres itself on the axis of rotation, without needing to adjust each jaw separately. Diameter of 125 mm corresponds to a medium size used on workshop lathes as well as smaller machine tools. The jaws move simultaneously, so both round and square workpieces are held in the centre and do not require measurement with a dial gauge after each re-clamping. The chuck is designed for speeds of up to 3000 RPM, which covers standard turning operations on both universal and CNC machines. The stepped jaws expand the clamping range, as each step engages with a different diameter of the workpiece.

  • Four jaws – 4 jaws distribute the grip around the circumference into four points, which holds the workpiece more stably than three points with smaller chucks, even for workpieces with a square cross-section, which are held less securely in a three-jaw chuck.
  • Self-centering function – the jaws move together, so the workpiece centres itself when tightened, reducing the preparation time for clamping to a single turn of the key instead of gradually adjusting each jaw separately, saving time especially during serial work with several identical parts.
  • Chuck diameter – 125 mm, a size suitable for workshop lathes where smaller and larger diameters of workpieces are alternated, and where a larger chuck would unnecessarily occupy workspace.
  • Maximum speed – 3000 RPM, which corresponds to the range in which standard components and smaller parts are turned without the need to constantly slow the machine to a lower setting.
  • Stepped jaws – stepped jaw shape allows the workpiece to be captured at several levels according to its diameter and shape, so one chuck covers a wider range of parts without needing to change jaws for a different type.
  • Key operation – holes around the body are for inserting a key, which tightens and loosens the jaws, meaning that the tightening does not depend on finger strength.

The clamping of the workpiece determines how accurately the turning will turn out, as even slight runout is transmitted to the entire surface of the component. The four-jaw design distributes the grip more evenly and is also suitable where the workpiece has a square or rectangular cross-section, and three jaws would hold it insecurely. The self-centering design maintains work speed, as all jaws move simultaneously and the workpiece centres itself without lengthy adjustments. The 125 mm diameter chuck is suitable for workshop lathes and smaller machine tools, where the size of clamped parts frequently changes and where re-clamping occurs several times per shift. The silver body with a central hole and holes for the key around the circumference corresponds to the established design that operators are accustomed to from standard lathes. Before the first clamping, it is advisable to check that the jaws engage with the workpiece with the same part of the step, so that the grip holds evenly around the entire circumference. After completing the work, simply loosen the jaws, wipe them clean of chips, and check that no material remnants are trapped in the grooves, which would prevent precise seating during the next clamping.
