Overview
3-Jaw Self-Centering Lathe Chuck with a Diameter of 80 mm for Speeds up to 4000 RPM Silver with a Key for Workshop Lathe

The 80 mm diameter three-jaw chuck is one of the smaller sizes used with bench and smaller workshop lathes. The three jaws move simultaneously, allowing the round workpiece to centre itself along the axis upon tightening, eliminating the need for lengthy alignment. The construction combines cast iron and steel, where the cast iron forms the body and the steel makes up the movable parts exposed to clamping. The jaws are stepped, enabling the same chuck to grip both thinner and thicker pieces depending on which step contacts the workpiece. An adjustable key is included for tightening and loosening the grip.

  • Self-Centering Mechanism – all three jaws move at the same time, allowing the workpiece to centre itself upon tightening, making setup quick, especially when clamping several identical parts in succession
  • Diameter 80 mm – compact size for bench lathes and smaller machines, where a larger chuck would obstruct the tool post and limit the tool's travel
  • Speeds – 4000 RPM is the value stamped on the body, defining the range in which the chuck is used, thus covering faster speeds for small workpieces
  • Stepped Jaws – stepped profile increases the clamping range, as each step contacts a different diameter of the workpiece, eliminating the need to readjust the jaws due to size changes
  • Construction from Cast Iron and Steel – the cast iron body dampens vibrations while the steel parts bear the load where the workpiece presses against them, ensuring that the grip does not loosen even during prolonged use
  • Adjustable Key – the supplied key fits into the hole on the circumference and tightens the grip without the need for additional tools, allowing the operator to clamp without needing anything else

Contents of the package:

  • 1x chuck
  • 1x adjustable key

Smaller lathes require a chuck proportional to their size, as an excessively large chuck limits the tool's travel and takes up space around the spindle. The 80 mm size is therefore suitable for bench machines and for work with smaller components, where frequent re-clamping occurs and setup speed matters. The self-centering design with three jaws offers this acceleration, as only one turn of the key is needed for the workpiece to sit in the axis. The stepped jaws also cover a wider range of diameters, making the chuck suitable for situations where thin shafts alternate with larger discs. The silver body with a central cover and a hole for the key corresponds to the classic design that operators are accustomed to, and the included key means the chuck is ready to use right out of the box without further searching. Before clamping, it is advisable to quickly run over the jaws and remove any chips from the grooves to ensure the workpiece sits flat and the grip holds uniformly around the circumference. The chuck can then handle standard turning of shafts, rings, and small parts, where working with a small diameter is crucial to ensure the piece runs smoothly without wobbling. After finishing work, the jaws are released to their initial position, leaving the entire range free for further clamping, and the key is returned to the machine, keeping it readily available for the next turning task.
