A well-tuned guitar with fresh strings sounds clean and is more enjoyable to practise on. It is often the small accessories that decide whether playing is a pleasure or just a source of frustration.
Strings are chosen by instrument: nylon strings belong on a classical guitar, steel strings on acoustic and electric guitars, and heavier sets on a bass. It pays to change them once the tone loses its brightness or the strings no longer hold their tuning. A string winder speeds up restringing, and a clip-on tuner for the headstock or a pedal tuner makes tuning quick and accurate.
Picks differ mainly in thickness: thin ones suit strumming chords, thicker ones suit solos and bass lines. A capo raises the key without having to learn new chord shapes, and a slide adds that classic blues sound.
