Overview
Coffee Plant Seeds Arabica Coffea arabica Catuai 5 pcs Brazilian compact variety with red fruits for home and indoor cultivation

Coffea arabica 'Catuai' is a famous Brazilian variety of Arabica coffee plant, which was developed in the 1960s by crossing the varieties Mundo Novo and Caturra. This package contains 5 seeds for growing this popular commercial variant at home. For small growers and enthusiasts, this variety is particularly attractive due to its compact growth, which is a result of the inherited traits of Caturra – short internodes allow for easier care and shaping of the plant in smaller spaces.

The plant forms a straight trunk with strong branches and dark green glossy leaves. In maturity, it reaches a height of 2 to 2.5 metres indoors, and usually 2.5 to 3 metres in the open soil of the tropics. The fruits are small coffee cherries that gradually ripen from green to yellow to the deep red colour typical of the Catuai Vermelho variant (there is also a yellow variant, Catuai Amarelo). The juicy fruits contain two classic coffee seeds, which can be used for making your own coffee after processing.

For germination, it is advisable to soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours and then sow them in permeable substrate at a temperature of around 28 °C. Germination takes 4 to 8 weeks. Young seedlings require partial shade, regular watering with standing water, and a stable temperature above 18 °C. Brazilian Catuai is valued in commercial cultivation for its high yield and good quality beans, making it one of the most widely grown varieties in Latin America.

Growing Brazilian Catuai represents a pleasant alternative to the commonly available Castillo or Typica. Compact habit of the plant makes it suitable for cultivation even in smaller spaces – for example, on a windowsill, on a desk, or in a smaller conservatory. After several years of growth and quality care, you can expect the first harvest of coffee cherries, from which you can make your own coffee from seed to cup. In winter, it is important to provide the plant with a resting period with lower temperatures and limited watering. Regular misting of the leaves, sharp pruning of old branches, and fertilising with special citrus or coffee fertiliser help the plant thrive in the long term.
