Overview
Coffea arabica IHCAFE 90 Coffee Seeds 5 pcs Honduran Coffee Variety Resistant to Diseases for Home Cultivation from Seeds

Coffea arabica 'IHCAFE 90' represents a modern cultivated variety of coffee plant, named after the Honduran Institute IHCAFE (Instituto Hondureño del Café), which developed this variant. This pack of 5 seeds offers the opportunity to grow this popular variety from Latin America at home. The variety has been bred as a hybrid between traditional Arabicas and Robusta to achieve high resistance to leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix), which is a major threat to coffee plantations worldwide.

In adulthood, the plant creates a medium-sized tree with dense, glossy and deep green foliage. The leaves are elliptical with a visibly wavy edge, membranous in texture and arranged oppositely. During the flowering period, small white star-shaped flowers with a sweet jasmine scent appear on the plant, which are self-pollinating and gradually transform into characteristic coffee cherries. The fruits ripen gradually, changing colour from green to orange to deep red.

For cultivation from seeds, it is advisable to follow the following procedure: soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours before sowing, then sow in permeable slightly acidic substrate to a depth of about 1 cm. Germination occurs at a temperature of 26 to 30 °C and air humidity above 70%. The first seedlings usually appear within 4 to 8 weeks. Young seedlings grow slowly and require partial shade, gradual acclimatisation, and regular watering with settled water.

Growing your own IHCAFE 90 coffee tree from seeds represents a rewarding project for growers who want to have a plant at home with added value of disease resistance. The young plant gradually matures and can produce its first coffee cherries after 3 to 5 years, from which beans can be obtained for home roasting and preparation of your own coffee. During the winter period, it is important to provide the plant with a cooler location at a temperature of around 13 to 15 °C and to limit watering. Regular fertilisation with special coffee fertiliser in the spring to autumn period supports healthy growth and fruit production.
