Overview
Coffea arabica Himalayan Coffee Seeds 5 pcs High-altitude Coffee Variety for Growing at Home and Indoors from Seeds

Coffea arabica 'Himalaya' is an interesting coffee variety originating from the mountainous regions of the Indian subcontinent, specifically from the cooler areas of the Himalayan foothills. This pack of 5 seeds offers the opportunity to grow this rarer form of coffee plant at home. The species differs from common tropical varieties with better adaptability to milder temperatures and higher altitudes, where the coffee cherries ripen more slowly and develop a richer flavour profile.

The mature plant produces a straight evergreen tree with strong branches and dense foliage. Shiny dark green leaves with an elliptical shape and visible veins form a compact crown, which looks decorative even in the fruitless stage. The flowers are small, pure white, with a characteristic jasmine scent typical of the entire Coffea genus. After pollination (the coffee plant is self-pollinating), coffee cherries develop, gradually changing colour from green to orange to deep red.

For germination, it is advisable to soak the seeds in warm water for 24 to 48 hours and then sow them in permeable substrate at a temperature of 26 to 28 °C. Germination usually takes 4 to 10 weeks and can be irregular. Young seedlings grow slowly and require stable warmth, plenty of partial shade, and regular watering with standing water. The Himalayan coffee plant indoors can reach a height of 1.5 to 2 metres and may start to bear fruit after 3 to 5 years of cultivation.

Growing the Himalayan coffee plant from seeds presents an interesting alternative for growers seeking a lesser-known variant of coffee with a different cultivation profile. Higher tolerance to lower temperatures makes this variety more suitable for cultivation in cooler interiors, where other coffee plants would struggle. The young plant quickly develops a compact habit and after a few years can produce its own coffee cherries, from which beans can be obtained for home roasting. During the winter period, it is advisable to grow the plant at a temperature of 12 to 15 °C with limited watering to maintain its natural growth rhythm. Regular fertilisation in spring and summer supports growth and fruit production.
