Garden furniture
Furnishings for sitting and relaxing on the terrace, the balcony and in the garden. Garden furniture includes dining and lounge sets, chairs, armchairs and tables, sun loungers and benches, as well as swing seats and hammocks. It differs in material — synthetic rattan, metal, wood or plastic — and in the degree of weather resistance, which you match to whether the furniture stays outside all year or is put away for the winter.
Garden furniture
Sitting comfortably outdoors depends above all on furniture that withstands sun, rain and everyday use. Garden furniture brings together pieces for dining, relaxing and decorating — from complete sets to individual chairs, tables and accessories that can be put together gradually to suit the size of the terrace, balcony or garden. The choice depends on the available space, how it will be used and how demanding the weather is that the furniture has to withstand.
The most common are seating sets and individual chairs and armchairs. Dining sets combine a table with chairs for eating, while lounge and corner sets with padded seats are more for relaxing and sitting in larger company. Individual chairs, armchairs and stools suit topping up or smaller areas, and folding and stackable models are easy to put away.
They are complemented by tables, sun loungers and benches. Tables differ in size, shape and height — from coffee tables to dining and bar tables, some are extendable. Adjustable sun loungers and lounger sets are meant for resting in the sun, benches and swing seats for sitting and relaxing; hammocks and hanging chairs add a resting spot wherever there is somewhere to hang them.
The material and weather resistance are decisive. Synthetic rattan is light, easy to look after and moisture-resistant, metal (aluminium, steel) is firm and stable, wood (teak, acacia, pine) looks natural and plastic is the cheapest and lightest. Textile seats and cushions are often removable and washable. For furniture that stays outside all year, hard-wearing materials and protective covers are useful; cushions and more delicate pieces are better put away for the winter.
