Dog muzzles
A muzzle provides safety when travelling, at the vet or in places where it is required, and prevents the dog from picking up dirt off the ground. Here you will find dog muzzles of various types and materials: basket muzzles in plastic, metal and leather, and soft textile ones, including models for short-nosed breeds. Choose according to the shape of the snout and the intended use.
Dog muzzles
A muzzle is an accessory that prevents the dog from biting or picking up objects and food off the ground. You use it when travelling on public transport, at the vet, at shows or in situations where local regulations require it. The range of dog muzzles differs in construction, material and the degree of freedom it leaves the dog.
Basket muzzles consist of a rigid grille of plastic, metal, leather or silicone and are the most versatile — they let the dog open its mouth, breathe, drink and pant, so they are suitable for longer periods and in heat too. Textile sleeve muzzles are light and compact but hold the mouth closed, so they suit only short periods, for example during treatment. A separate group is formed by models for short-nosed breeds with a different snout shape.
The material affects weight, durability and comfort — plastic is light, metal sturdy, leather mouldable. Padding at the contact point increases comfort, and adjustable straps with a quick-release buckle make putting it on and off easier.
Correct measuring is crucial: you need the length and circumference of the snout so the muzzle fits well, does not press anywhere and the dog can open its mouth in it. Get the dog used to the muzzle gradually and, in heat or under exertion, do not prevent it from breathing and cooling down. Always follow the instructions and use the muzzle only under supervision.
