Overview
Butia Odorata Seeds 5 pcs Hardy Feather Palm with Arched Grey-Green Leaves for Sowing and Container Home Cultivation

Butia odorata, commonly known as pindo palm or jelly palm, is among the hardiest feather palms and is popular in horticulture for its elegant habit and edible fruits. This small package contains 5 seeds, allowing you to experience growing this rarely offered palm from germination. The species originates from the South American pampas of Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina, where it forms a characteristic element of the open savannah landscape. The main feature of the mature palm is its long, arched, feathery grey-green leaves, which spread from the top of a short, robust trunk covered with remnants of leaf bases. The plant is complemented in maturity by yellow-orange fleshy fruits with a delicate fruity aroma, after which the plant is named. This species is among the most sought-after container palms for Central European growers.

Contents of the Package:

  • 5 seeds of Butia odorata

The germination of this palm is among the long-term and somewhat irregular processes, so patience is required, and stable conditions should be maintained for several months. Before sowing, we recommend thoroughly soaking the seeds in lukewarm water for at least 48 hours, which significantly improves germination for this species. Sow in well-draining substrate in deeper containers, as the roots of palms grow quickly downwards, and place the pot in a warm, bright location with a temperature around 28 °C. Young palms grow slowly and focus on developing their root system in the first years, later beginning to form characteristic feathery leaves. In Central European climates, the plant performs well as a container specimen, which can be placed outside in full sun during summer and moved to a well-lit space with lower temperatures before winter. This package of 5 seeds of Butia odorata is therefore a suitable start for anyone wishing to dedicate themselves to this unusual hardy palm for the long term.
