Overview
Carpobrotus Edulis Seeds 20 pcs Edible Ice Plant Pink Flowers Ornamental Ground Cover Plant for Rockeries and Containers

Carpobrotus edulis, the edible ice plant, is one of the most attractive ground-cover succulents originating from South Africa, where it naturally grows in the coastal areas of the Cape and has now spread to many Mediterranean regions around the world. The pack contains 20 quality seeds suitable for home sowing as well as for enthusiastic hobby growers who wish to enrich their collection of exotic plants or try cultivating an unusual succulent. This extraordinarily versatile succulent perennial creates dense carpets of fleshy, triangular leaves and during the flowering period, it adorns itself with striking pink flowers with a yellow centre, resembling daisies in shape. The plant is popular for its low maintenance, excellent drought resistance, and ability to stabilise slopes or areas with poor soil.

Plant characteristics:

  • Botanical name: Carpobrotus edulis, edible ice plant
  • Number of seeds in the pack: 20 pieces
  • Type of plant: succulent ground-cover perennial of South African origin from the Aizoaceae family
  • Flowers: striking pink to magenta with ray-like petals and a yellow centre approximately 8 to 10 cm in diameter

  • Germination time: usually 2 to 4 weeks at around 20 °C
  • Suitable location: full sun, well-drained sandy or rocky soil with minimal moisture
  • Uses: rockeries, dry walls, coastal gardens, pots, hanging containers, terraces, and balconies
  • Tolerates drought, wind, and salty air, ideal for Mediterranean-style gardens

  • Fruits: fleshy, edible, with a sweet taste, traditionally used in the cuisine of its native area

Contents of the pack:
20 pcs of Carpobrotus edulis seeds

Sowing is best done in spring into a light substrate mixed with sand or perlite, lightly pressing the seeds onto the surface and keeping them slightly moist without overwatering. Young seedlings should be pricked out into smaller containers once they have formed their first pair of true leaves and gradually acclimatised before planting outside. The plant is primarily grown in our climate as a portable annual that can be kept indoors in a bright, cool room at temperatures around 5 to 10 °C with minimal watering during winter. Carpobrotus edulis appreciates full sun exposure throughout the day, well-drained soil without stagnant water, and occasional feeding with a weak solution of fertiliser for succulents during the growing season. Due to its decorative nature, long flowering period, and extraordinary low maintenance, it becomes a popular choice for container compositions, dry floral walls, ornamental borders for terraces, as well as a stabilising plant on eroded slopes and sandy areas.
