Experience general aviation like never before! World of Aircraft is a series of standalone simulators, each focusing on a specific type of flying. World of Aircraft: Glider Simulator features a range of (powered) gliders and tow planes based on a high-resolution flight area.

World of Aircraft uses a dedicated graphical and physics engine to simulate light aviation. Each edition focuses on one specific type of aviation and will always include the area, airport, and aircraft you need to explore that type of aviation. Because it does not aim to cover the entire world and all types of aviation, you will gain more details for the parts that are in the simulation compared to full-fledged simulators.

It is a pure VFR simulator, so it only simulates flights conducted without complex instruments and you navigate using a compass and your eyes. It is a joy to be in the air and control your machine.

The first version, World of Aircraft – Glider Simulator, puts you in the cockpit of an aircraft you will find at an airport dedicated to gliders. Both older and modern gliders await you, including a powered glider and a glider with an auxiliary engine. You will even find a highly detailed tow plane that will get your gliders into the air.

    • Diamond HK36 Dimona, two-seat powered glider
    • LET L-13 Blaník, world-renowned glider, often used for training
    • Schleicher ASK21, two-seat glider with good performance and solid aerobatics
    • Schleicher ASK21 Mi, motorised self-launching glider with a small rotary engine
    • PLZ-104 Wilga, robust four-seat aircraft, used for many roles, very suitable for aerotowing

FLIGHT MODEL

  • Flight model based on individual elements: each surface is divided into many sections, aerodynamic forces are calculated for each section individually and then integrated. 360 x 360 degrees of flow ensures natural and smooth stalls, turns, slips, hammerheads, and so on
  • Blade element model (BEM) for variable pitch supports provides very accurate calculations of both linear (thrust) and rotational (asymmetric propwash) components
  • Combustion engine model based on mass flow, correct calculation of pressure in the pipes
  • Correct connection of the support to the engine (developed torque is balanced by the torque consumed by the propeller)
  • Complete calculation of windmilling mode, including backflow conditions
  • Gyroscopic effect, calculation of the p-factor effect

SOUND MODEL

  • Many sound effects that are not commonly seen in simulators, such as rod stop impacts
  • Flow sounds depend on the angle of attack, not just airspeed
  • Propeller sounds at a distance

ATMOSPHERIC MODEL

  • Thermal model based on real flight test data
  • Temperatures rise, dissipate over time, and are carried away by the wind
  • Speed gradient across the thermal updraft (so you can feel where the lift is highest on your aircraft)

AREA AND AIRPORT

WoA – Glider Edition is located at Herrenteich airport, a small airport on the banks of the Rhine, near Speyer (including Speyer airport). The area measuring 50 x 50 kilometres is modelled in high detail with tens of thousands of trees, houses, and commercial buildings. A 30-centimetre footprint provides a perfect backdrop for the area.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Once you finish the training missions, you can connect with your friends and fly together. Use the Wilga to tow your friends to altitude or find out who can make the most accurate landing. You could even try aerobatics as a team. The sky is the limit. This time for real. See you at the field!
