Thaumaturge is an isometric, story-rich RPG with a unique take on turn-based combat, character development features, and investigation mechanics that confronts you with morally ambiguous decisions – set in a world teeming with mysterious forces and strange ethereal beings known as Salutors .
It is the year 1905. Warsaw is under the yoke of the imperial Russian Tsardom. Its inhabitants form a diverse group of various ancestries, opinions, and beliefs with often conflicting interests: Russian soldiers, Jewish merchants, Polish burghers, and others. Despite the circumstances, the city is a bustling metropolis where one can attend a breathtaking soirée with high society and later be robbed in one of the dark alleys of the Praga district. A city of great hopes and dreams on one side and dark desires on the other.
Thaumaturge brings both a gift and a burden. This parallel holds true for Wiktor Szulski , the game's titular hero, whose family matters draw him back to the tumultuous streets of early 20th century Warsaw. The gift of thaumaturgy intertwines with a family legacy passed down through generations. This mystical heritage significantly shapes Wiktor's life journey, which is intertwined with the pursuit of otherworldly entities and their hosts. For only a thaumaturge can tame these ethereal entities – known to a select few as Salutors – using their mystical abilities to uncover secrets hidden in the human soul and converse with darkness; no one understands how each suffers their own demons quite like Wiktor.
