SpaceEngine PC Steam Account

Release Date: 11/06/2019

SpaceEngine is a scientific space simulator at a 1:1 scale, featuring billions and billions of galaxies, nebulae, stars, and planets, all displayed in full real scale. Explore Earth and our neighbouring worlds in the Solar System, orbit a black hole in a galaxy billions of light years away, or visit anything in between seamlessly, without transitions.

You can explore all of time and space – glide between stars at speeds a million times faster than the speed of light and accelerate time to watch the orbital movements of thousands of worlds unfold before your eyes. Every planet you encounter on your journey will contain procedurally generated 3D terrain with detailed textures. Everything you see in the sky – stars and galaxies, planets and moons, asteroids and comets, black holes and neutron stars, star clusters and nebulae – can be explored at the press of a button.

With a spaceship featuring Newtonian physics and autopilot assistance (in early development but fully usable), you can fly anywhere in the universe in Flight Simulator mode. SpaceEngine is also very mod-friendly – create your own planets, star systems, even galaxies, import your own spaceship models, create your own GUI appearances, and more, all of which can be easily shared with others.

With SpaceEngine, the possibilities are limitless.

Features

  • Astronomy
All types of celestial objects are represented: galaxies, nebulae, stars and star clusters, planets and moons, comets and asteroids. Known celestial objects are represented using data from catalogues: galaxies (NGC/IC), stars (HIPPARCOS), star clusters, nebulae, and planets (the Solar System and known exoplanets). Areas of space that have not yet been catalogued contain procedurally generated objects: galaxies, stars, star clusters, nebulae, and planetary systems.
  • Navigation
You can freely move through space – smoothly travel between any object and any distance, from the surface to orbit to interstellar and intergalactic space. Moving through space is as easy as "click and go", just like free flight in a game using the WASD keys or a gamepad. Time travel is also possible: you can speed up, slow down, or reverse the flow of time and skip to a specified date. Detailed interactive tutorials will familiarize you with the controls.
  • Graphics
Volumetric 3D models of galaxies and nebulae with clouds of interstellar dust and 3D landscapes on planets and stars. For many bodies of the Solar System, real data from space probes is used, with huge high-resolution texture packs available as free DLC. For uncharted and procedural planets, the surface is generated procedurally using your computer's GPU. Additional features include realistic atmospheric scattering, eclipse shadows, animated auroras, and comet tails, as well as physically based light distortions near black holes and neutron stars with animated accretion disks and jets.
  • Physics
Realistic and physically based generation of procedural objects (galaxies, star systems, planets) and their physical properties (mass, radius, temperature, atmospheric parameters, etc.). The orbital motion of planets, moons, and stars in multiple star systems is accurately calculated and displayed. Realistic concepts and physics of spaceship design: orbital motion, atmospheric flight model, and physics of the Alcubierre warp drive.
  • Virtual Reality
SpaceEngine supports HTC Vive, Oculus Rift (via native library), and Windows Mixed Reality (via Steam VR). VR controller support is partial: you can select objects with one controller and move with the other.
  • Sound
Original background music tracks created by various authors with contextual playback. Sound effects for planetary environments and spaceships are in development.
  • Tools
Built-in tutorials will help you get started with the planetarium. Search for celestial objects by name and find the nearest star systems. Navigate through space using a scalable map of the universe and a map of the planetary system. Saving, exporting, and importing locations is supported, which can be easily shared between users. The program maintains an automatic log of objects you have recently visited. Learn every detail about the objects you discover using the built-in "Wiki" information system with additional hand-written descriptions of many known objects. Display the orbital paths of celestial objects, labels and markers, constellations, and other informational tools.
  • Multilingual Support
Currently, SpaceEngine is available in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian and European Portuguese, Dutch, Finnish, Swedish, Croatian, Romanian, Czech, Polish, Slovak, Russian, and Turkish. Many new localisations are in development. Only localisations that are 100% complete are displayed on the Steam store page, but you can enable additional ones in the game.
  • Modifications
SpaceEngine supports the creation and import of user-made add-ons: catalogues, models, and textures for deep space objects, planets, and spaceships. Spaceship models representing both real and fictional designs – including popular sci-fi franchises – are commonly imported and shared by the community, both here on Steam and on the official SpaceEngine forum.
