Play the digital adaptation of the beloved board game. Root is a game full of adventure and warfare, where 2–4 players compete for dominance over a vast wilderness.

The Marquise de Cat has seized the famous forest with the intention of plundering its riches. Under her rule, the numerous woodland inhabitants have banded together. This Alliance will seek to strengthen its resources and undermine the cats' dominance. In this effort, the Alliance can enlist the help of Outcasts, who can navigate the dangerous forest paths. Some may sympathise with the hopes and dreams of the Alliance, but they have seen enough to know what predators once ruled the forest.

Proud, quarrelsome Eagles have meanwhile found a new leader on the edge of their territory, in whom they place their hopes for asserting their ancient hereditary rights.
A battle looms that will decide the fate of the great Woodland Empire. It is up to the players to determine which faction will ultimately prevail here.
Among the latest conquerors of the forest is Marquise de Cat, who focuses on building heavy machinery and logistics while overseeing nature. For the timber harvested, she can build workshops, sawmills, and recruiter’s dwellings, which help her gain victory points. Although the Marquise de Cat has the largest army in ROOT, mere numbers will not suffice to dominate the forest...

The Marquise aims to dominate the forest by building an unstoppable industrial war machine. The Marquise gains a victory point for each new building she constructs – whether it be a workshop, sawmill, or recruiter’s dwelling. The more buildings of one type she has on the map, the more points she will gain. However, to finance her construction, the Marquise must maintain and defend a strong, interconnected supply network of timber. The idea of simple numerical superiority over the enemy is tempting, but it carries the risk of becoming overly ambitious and ultimately unable to keep pace.
Before the arrival of the Cats, the Clans of the Eagle's Nest ruled the forest. They must reclaim control by occupying territories and building roosts if they do not wish to slide back into mere bickering. The Eagles are proud and bound by the edicts of their leaders. Each leader comes with different special abilities and advantages. The right leader at the right time can secure victory for you, but the wrong leader can completely ruin your prospects of dominance over the forest.

During the Evening, the Eagles gain victory points for the number of roosts on the map. The more pronounced their presence in the Forest, the greater their gains. However, the Eagles are bound by the edict, which is an ever-expanding set of mandatory actions promised by their leader. In each turn, they must perform all actions from their edict; otherwise, they will descend into chaos.

The Woodland Alliance dislikes tyrants. Neither old nor new. The Marquise, the Eagles... it’s all the same bunch. This forest can only be ruled by the will of the people! The Woodland Alliance excels in the art of guerrilla warfare. It may start slowly, but in the later stages, it can become quite a power – they must, however, deal with the other self-proclaimed rulers along the way.

The Woodland Alliance wants to gain the sympathy of various woodland creatures. For each sympathy token the Alliance places, they can gain victory points. The more sympathy they have on the map, the more victory points they will earn. Gaining the sympathy of the people requires followers. These followers can be used for violent purposes and incite a violent uprising in the forest. When an uprising occurs, the Alliance establishes a new base. Bases allow the Alliance to train officers, which will increase their military strength and flexibility.

The Outcast is an adventurer to some, a trader to others, and a thief to many. Simply put, a versatile rogue. As the Outcast, you will explore the entire map, even in the dense woods beyond the clearings, where you will search for items and ruins. You can trade and lend a helping hand to the warring woodland factions to assist you in fulfilling your own secret objectives.

The Outcast plays all sides of the conflict, simultaneously completing tasks and building a reputation in the forest. When the Outcast improves their relationship with another faction or removes a warrior belonging to a rival faction, they earn victory points. Victory points are also gained by completing tasks. If the Outcast wants their actions and movements to be effective, they must learn to work with a set of items, expand their selection by exploring forest ruins, and provide assistance to other factions.
