RimWorld Steam Account
Release Date: 16/07/2016
RimWorld is a story generator. It is designed to co-create tragic, twisted, and triumphant tales of trapped pirates, desperate colonists, starvation, and survival. It works by controlling the "random" events that the world throws at you. Every storm, pirate raid, and passing trader is a card dealt into your story by the AI storyteller. There are several storytellers to choose from. Randy Random does crazy things, Cassandra Classic goes for rising tension, and Phoebe Friendly simply does good things.
Your colonists are not professional settlers – they are survivors from a personal cruiser destroyed in orbit. You might end up with a noble, an accountant, and a housekeeper. You can acquire more colonists by capturing them in battle and turning them to your side, buying them from slave traders, or accepting refugees. So your colony will always be a diverse crew.
The background of each individual is tracked and affects how they play. A noble will excel in social skills (recruiting prisoners, negotiating trade prices), but will refuse physical work. A farmer knows how to grow food based on years of experience, but cannot do research. A nerdy scientist is great at research but cannot perform social tasks at all. A genetically modified killer can do nothing but kill – but does it very well.
Colonists develop – and destroy – relationships. Each of them has their opinions on others, which determines whether they become lovers, marry, cheat, or fight. Perhaps your two best colonists are happily married – until one of them falls in love with the brash surgeon who saved her from a gunshot wound.
The game generates an entire planet from pole to equator. You can choose to land your crash modules in the cold northern tundra, arid desert plains, temperate forests, or smoky equatorial jungle. Different areas have different animals, plants, diseases, temperatures, precipitation, mineral resources, and terrain. These survival challenges in a disease-ridden jungle are very different from those in a barren desert wasteland or frozen tundra with a two-month growing season.
You can tame and train animals. Cute pets cheer up sad colonists. Livestock can be processed, milked, and sheared. Attack beasts can be unleashed on your enemies. There are many animals - cats, Labrador retrievers, grizzly bears, camels, cougars, chinchillas, chickens, and exotic alien life forms.
People in the world of RimWorld constantly monitor their situation and surroundings to decide how to feel at any given moment. They react to hunger and fatigue, witness death, disrespectfully unburied corpses, injuries, being left in the dark, packing into cramped spaces, sleeping outside or in the same room as others, and many other situations. If they become too stressed, they may crack or break down.
Wounds, infections, prosthetics, and chronic conditions are tracked on every body part and affect character abilities. Eye injuries make shooting or surgery difficult. Injured legs slow people down. Hands, brains, mouths, hearts, livers, kidneys, stomachs, legs, fingers, and others can be injured, sick, or missing, and all have logical effects in the game. And other species have their own body arrangements – take a leg off a deer and it can still hop on the remaining three. Take a horn off a rhinoceros and it becomes much less dangerous.
You can repair body parts using prosthetics from primitive to transcendent. After an unfortunate incident with a rhinoceros, Joe Colonist will walk with a peg leg, but he will still be quite slow. Buy an expensive bionic leg from a trader next year and Joe will become a superhuman runner. You can even extract, sell, buy, and transplant internal organs.
