Please Be Happy is a comforting visual novel with a slice of life set in a fictional version of Wellington, New Zealand.
Miho was born as a fox in a Korean forest and carries with her the memory of a traveller who showed her kindness and spoke of home. Now more human than fox, Miho has spent a long, long time searching for her person. She arrives by airship in Wellington, one of the gems of the floating island of New Zealand.
Despite years spent observing people, she still has much to learn about their culture and society. Until now, she has made a living as a thief, her heightened senses allowing her to easily take advantage of people. She has also seen much of the worst that humanity has to offer.
Only after meeting Juliet, the owner of a small library, and Aspen, an aspiring writer, does Miho begin to understand what kindness is and that when it comes to people, there is more than just bad things.
CHARACTERS
Miho's earliest memories are of the time when she was a fox and of the kind person she met back then. Now more than just a fox, she has spent her whole life searching for that person. Her journey has led her to a new life in Wellington, New Zealand.
She changes her name every time she moves to a new country. Her previous names include Gumi, Migu, and Mimi.
Aspen is a human girl who loves words and stories. A barista at Bellhouse Café, she dreams of one day becoming a popular author. She tries to take a little inspiration from every person she meets.
Every weekend, she has an hour-long phone call with her mum.
As a vampire, Juliet is one of the oldest inhabitants of Wellington. She has made the treasures of her life accessible to everyone in the form of a library. In addition to books, she also provides wisdom, kindness, and shelter to those in need.
She dislikes having to resort to echolocation to find her reading glasses.
