In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, players take on the role of Talion, a brave ranger whose family is killed before his eyes on the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor, just before he himself is slain. Talion, resurrected by the Spirit of Vengeance and empowered by the abilities of Wraiths, ventures into Mordor and vows to destroy those who wronged him. During his personal vendetta, Talion uncovers the truth about the Spirit that controls him, learns the origin of the Rings of Power, and ultimately confronts his true enemy.
Every enemy players face is a unique personality, differing in their traits, strengths, and weaknesses. Through the Nemesis system, the relationships and characteristics of enemies are shaped by the player's actions and decisions, creating personal arch-nemeses who remember and adapt to the player, differing for each play session. Players can create their own battles, enemies, and rewards in a dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, providing each player with a unique experience.
