A war has been waged across the kingdom of Myrtana. Orc hordes have invaded human territory, and the king of the land needed a great deal of ore to forge enough weapons to face this threat with his army. Anyone who breaks the law in these darkest times is condemned to serve in the giant penal colony of Khorinis, where they mine the much-needed ore.
The entire area, dubbed the "Colony", is surrounded by a magical barrier, a sphere two kilometres in diameter, which protects the penal colony from the outside world. The barrier can be crossed from the outside in – but once inside, no one can escape. The barrier proved to be a double-edged sword – soon the prisoners took the opportunity and began a rebellion. The colony split into three rival factions, and the king was forced to negotiate for his ore, rather than simply demanding it.
You are thrown over the barrier into this prison. With your back against the wall, you must survive and forge tenuous alliances until you finally manage to escape.
