Step into the worn boots of our hero: a patient minor lord who is forced by circumstances to engage in battle against far superior enemy forces. Caught up with a squabbling king, duplicitous advisors, and enemies on all sides, there is no way to resolve this peacefully. It seems that diplomacy is not an option!
Experience war on a whole new scale as over 10 THOUSAND enemy units assault your castle walls. Do you have what it takes to save the kingdom? Is the kingdom even worth saving?

The Law of War

Your king is a powerful and bold leader. The only thing he loves more than drinking is fighting, and he has done plenty of that. While he leads foreign wars and conquests, the lands at home have been neglected; infrastructure is crumbling and people are slowly starving. The land is ripe for seeds of rebellion!
The king, deceived by mindless advisors, does not care for state bureaucracy, so when the masses rise, there is no warning or helper to be found. You must take the helm of battle yourself and defend your lands from murderous peasants. But victory will grant you rare relief, as you are the only one proven capable of protecting the kingdom. You must quell the uprising, flush out its leaders, and restore stability.
Rumours abound of enormous treasures in distant lands, exactly what the king needs to feed the people and fund more beer and war. Will you do what your sovereign offers, and set sail to replenish the palace treasury? The native peoples will surely not resist your pillaging. What could possibly go wrong?

The Laws of Physics

Diplomacy is Not an Option takes the laws of physics very seriously: you will not find any crossbows that aim for scanning! Your archers and siege engines will require clear trajectories to hit their targets, so good placement of your towers and defences is vital.
Thousands of enemy soldiers will advance on your walls and archers positioned behind them must shoot time and again; this dramatically reduces their range and accuracy. If you provide your units with elevated firing positions, you will significantly increase their effectiveness. Likewise, a bolt or boulder thrown by a catapult will not help when it strikes a cliff mid-flight.
Consider your gates, your lines of advance and retreat. Create kill zones and fallback positions. You will need to take an active role in the fight to get the best out of your men.

The Laws of a Functional Society

The world of Diplomacy is Not an Option is not kind. Food may be scarce, and your soldiers may starve on the battlefield. Homes must be protected, diseases treated, and corpses removed and buried with respect.
If you do not care for your people, you may soon find yourself overwhelmed by a very unpleasant plague or ramparts guarded only by the withering bones of your malnourished soldiers.

The Laws of Economics

A functional army requires a functional economy to support and sustain it. Food, wood, stone, iron, and gold are the foundations of your city's economy, and you will need to carefully monitor your supplies if you wish to meet the advancing enemy in time. Gather resources, select storage locations, and carefully plan expansions and upgrades. The enemy will not willingly give up their land, and unprotected civilian expansions will fall victim to enemy invasion.
Trade through the imposing merchant airship offers a lifeline to besieged cities, bringing emergency supplies of food to feed the men or stone to rebuild the walls. It could help just enough to tip the scales. Can you find a balance between greedy expansion and security? Between builders and farmers and fighters?

The Laws of Magic

Unstable and treacherous, most avoid the use of magic in the lands. Those who dare to manipulate the occult are viewed with suspicion and fear, and for good reason. There is a dark history of tainted power that moves the dead and ensnares wayward souls. A proper burial for your slain is not just tradition, it is a necessity.
On the other hand: it can also be used to rain down very large fireballs on your enemies. So enjoy that too.

The Fundamental Laws of Life

The game has been designed with freedom as a core concept. The endless mode provides you with full access to the technology tree, and there are no restrictions on how to approach the challenges that procedurally generated maps present. Dive into the ramparts early, build large armies of food cannons, or engage in the macro game of greedy growth and costly investments. It is entirely up to you which style will ensure you the greatest success.
The campaign will offer you challenges of combat and morale: it is a grim and unpleasant world. Few are worthy of your loyalty, and even fewer will believe it. Just like in real life, behind most problems lies foolishness and greed, but here it is too late to talk. You have no option to resolve it peacefully. At this stage: Diplomacy is not an option!
