Carcassonne is a modern classic tile-placement game based on the award-winning game where players draw and place tiles featuring a piece of southern French landscape. A tile may depict a city, road, monastery, pasture, or some combination of these, and must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, ensuring that cities connect to cities, roads connect to roads, and so on. A player then has the option to place one of their followers, known as Meeples, on one of the areas on it: on a city as a knight, on a road as a robber, on a monastery as a monk, or on the grass as a farmer. When this area is complete, that meeple scores points for its owner. Each new game is a fresh experience due to the constantly changing landscape.
During the game of Carcassonne, players are faced with decisions such as: "Is it really worth placing my last meeple there?" or "Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it near my opponent, making it harder for them to complete their objective and score points?" As players place only one tile and have the option to place one meeple on it, turns proceed quickly, even though it is a game full of possibilities and options.
