You are a local lord – a leader tasked by the Scorched Queen to reclaim the wilderness and uncover lost riches for the Smouldering City, the last bastion of civilisation against the Plague Storm that destroyed the old world. Unlike most survival city builders, where you focus on a single city, in Against the Storm you must build an extensive and thriving network of settlements inhabited by diverse fantasy races, each with their own specialisations and needs.

The wilderness conceals many hidden dangers, and relentless storms will force your population into submission. If your settlements fall, the expedition may end – but not the game. Against the Storm is a roguelite city-building game, meaning that each time you embark on a new journey into the wilderness, you carry over resources, upgrades, and experiences from previous expeditions.

  • Manage a diverse population of villagers
    Foxes, beavers, and lizards stand alongside humans and harpies in the struggle for survival. Utilise the strengths of each group and balance their diverse needs, from housing and culinary preferences to tastes in luxury and recreation. You will craft raincoats, brew beer, and bake pies to boost morale in the face of the oppressive enmity of the forest, or will you prioritise the needs of one species over another to operate more swiftly for the Scorched Queen?
  • City builder meets roguelite
    Experience city-building gameplay enhanced by roguelite replayability. Build and manage multiple settlements scattered across a vast world map while collecting valuable meta-progress resources to upgrade the Smouldering City. Feel the pressure of an aspiring monarch as the Scorched Queen demands constant progress, while recurring Plague Storms pose an inevitable threat to your settlements. Manage your reputation to ensure success in any of them before moving on to establish another, constantly seeking new opportunities for growth, accepting unique challenges across various biomes, and preparing for the inevitable destruction of all but the Smouldering City itself. How will you maximise each cycle to secure the best fate not only for the Smouldering City but also for your career as a local lord?
  • Never play the same game twice
    With hundreds of gameplay modifiers and 6 distinct biomes, each location in the city presents unique challenges even for the most resourceful local lord. Adapt your strategy to changing weather conditions and experiment with lists of building plans and advantages that can help your society thrive or lead it to ruin. Will you accept and complete additional quests and delve deeper into the dangerous forest for potential blessings, or will you proceed cautiously to ensure you act within your means? All the while, you never know what goods the Trader will bring you next year, and the forest conceals treasures and resources, but also ancient threats.
  • Build an endless number of cities
    Laying the foundations of a new city is one of the most thrilling moments in a city-building game. In Against the Storm, you will have the opportunity to repeatedly experience this by building new settlements while interacting with a network of previously established cities in a growing world.
